Mental Health Brief Intervention Service (MHBIS)

MHBIS provides four free sessions with a Registered Health Professional trained in ‘Talking Therapies’. Clinicians will contact you within a few days of your referral and will aim to see you within three weeks. Clinician’s will see you at the Talbot Park Community Health Hub or a suitable community venue and their hours of work are from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm.

The MHBIS offers two options: Puawaitanga- a virtual (on-line) face-to-face service, and, MHBIS- a face-to-face in person service.

Clinicians can help individuals with anxiety, depression, stress, grief/loss, relationship/family issues, socio-economic stress, cultural/spiritual support, alcohol and drug issues, work stress and the impact of stress on one’s functioning and ability to cope.

Referral Pathways

Referrals are made via the individual’s Health Professional at their Medical Practice, the Mental Health and Addiction Service, the Emergency Department and iCATTS.

Acceptance Criteria

The individual is over 18 years of age.

  • The individual has a South Canterbury address
  • The individual is enrolled in a Medical Practice.
