The South Canterbury DHB serves our community by either funding or providing the delivery of public health and disability services. We work closely with the Ministry of Health which provides some disability support services, and other health services, at a national level. We also form part of the South Island Alliance in which DHBs work regionally to develop innovative and efficient health services.
The DHB is governed by the Board who develop strategy and hold the DHB management team accountable for the operation of services. As a DHB we have very broad responsibilities from primary health and disability support service providers (such as general practitioners, community mental health, and home-based care providers) to the full range of secondary-level hospital services available through Timaru Hospital and Community Services.
