Cardiovascular or heart disease is a growing problem in Hawke’s Bay. The cardiology service for Health NZ — Hawke's Bay provides care for people with cardiovascular disease living in the region.
The cardiology service provides assessment, investigation, education and treatment for people with cardiac or heart disease.
The service is made up of a large team of clinical, nursing and multidisciplinary staff working across the mixed medical cardiology ward, the coronary care unit and outpatient services.
Services we provided include:
electrocardiography (ECG)
echocardiography
exercise treadmill testing
Holter monitoring
diagnostic angiography
trans-oesophageal echocardiography
pacemaker insertion
pacemaker clinics
direct current cardioversion
cardiac education and rehabilitation through the Heart Beat Hawke's Bay programme
specialty clinical nurse follow up and heart failure service.
You may referred to Wellington Hospital for further investigations or treatment, such as:
a complex angiography
angioplasty
cardiac surgery or electrophysiology studies.
All patients who have cardiac surgery — for example, coronary artery bypass graft or valve surgery — are offered an initial home visit from a community cardiology nurse and ongoing follow up.
Your cardiologist may recommend Heart Beat Hawke's Bay follows up on your care and invites you take part in the Heart Beat Programme. This 6-week programme aims to:
increase your awareness on heart health
support your recovery
reduce the chance of a future heart event.
It is free to attend and you are welcome to bring a support person. Each session is 2 hours.
