ASMS senior doctors’ 48-hour strike planned for 23 and 24 September 2025
Senior doctors and dentists at Health NZ public hospitals and health services plan to strike for 48 hours on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September.
Emergency departments will be open for emergencies only.
GPs, after-hours and urgent care clinics, and other community health providers are not affected by the strikes and will continue to operate as normal.
The Community and home detox service (CHDS) supports people withdrawing from alcohol or other drugs, or who are stabilising on medication in their own home and other community environments.
This service is for people who are physically dependent on alcohol or other drugs, such as benzodiazepines, methamphetamines, opiates, who require medical support to withdraw (detox), reduce their use or stabilise on medications.
Our team works with you and your support person(s) to create a plan so you have a safe withdrawal and stabilisation. While your own healthcare provider, such as a GP, remains responsible for your overall medical care, our CHDS doctor can prescribe medication to help with your withdrawal and stabilisation.
We encourage you to involve friends or whānau members, people who can support you during and after the withdrawal and stabilisation process. They are welcome to be with you for any of the appointments you have with the CHDS team
After you have completed your time with us our consumer liaison will give you a call to ask about your experience with our service and to see how things are going for you. We encourage you to take part as your feedback helps us provide you with the best possible care.
