NZRDA (junior doctors) and NZ Blood Service strikes

NZRDA 7am Thursday 30 May - 8am Saturday 1 June

NZBS Industrial Action: 29 May – 19 June

  • The contingency plans we have in place are ensuring that our hospitals are continuing to operate, delivering the care and support patients need.
  • Emergency Departments remain open, and doctors are available to provide life preserving services.
  • People should call 111 or go to the nearest Emergency Department immediately if they or someone else has a medical emergency or a serious or life-threatening condition.
  • People with non-urgent ailments or injuries should contact their GP in the first instance. Anyone unsure about whether they should go to ED should contact their GP or call Healthline (0800 611 116) for free advice.
  • Doctors will still be available during any strike action to provide assessment of urgent and acute needs, and care for inpatients and outpatients if needed.
  • Unless contacted directly, patients should attend surgery/outpatient appointments as planned. We’ll contact people whose appointments need to change.
