Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Tauranga Hospital Maternity Ward.
When you arrive at the hospital, you'll find dedicated parking located at the back entrance of the hospital for you to use.
You can access this car park via Twentieth Avenue. If these spaces are full, please use the other patient parking on site.
If you arrive after 8 p.m., the doors will be locked. So please use the intercom and our security team will let you in.
Once you're inside the hospital, find your way to the lifts and go up to level one. You'll see our maternity entrance there. Support people, when your person is in labour is settled on the ward, please move your car to the allocated parking if it’s not already there.
If you were coming in for an elective caesarean section, our surgical admissions ward is just next to the maternity ward on level one. You can go directly there on the day of your caesarean section.
When you arrive at the maternity ward, please use the intercom to speak to a team member who will let you in. When you first arrive our team will welcome you, confirm your details and show you to one of our birthing rooms.
We have four antenatal rooms with shared bathrooms, as well as four shared postnatal rooms and seven single postnatal rooms with bathrooms. We also have a kitchen for you and your whānau to use with tea and coffee available.
Our birthing rooms are fully equipped with everything you and your midwife will need during your labour and birth.
Epidurals are available if required, as well as assisted deliveries including forceps, ventouse, and caesarean sections.
We have anaesthetists and obstetricians available on call at all times, should you need them.
Some people choose to use water to provide relaxation and pain relief during birth.
We have two pool rooms available for you to use should you need.
Please bring in anything you would like to use to assist you with your labour. This could be a music speaker, a birth ball, or other home comforts.
Once your baby is born, you will stay in the same room for around two hours and then you will move to a postnatal room.
You also have the option to go to the Bethlehem Birthing Centre. Or you can go home if you and your baby are well.
Our team of midwives and nurses will support you with your baby's feeding after birth. And we also have three lactation consultants available should you need additional help with feeding.

This is because we acknowledge and understand that kaupapa Māori and other cultural traditions and practices will have an influence and an impact on your childbirth experience.
