Rheumatology is the diagnosis (detection) and treatment of musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions commonly referred to as rheumatic diseases. These diseases, such as Arthritis, can affect the joints, muscles and bones causing pain, swelling, stiffness and deformity.

South Canterbury DHB provides a comprehensive Rheumatology service including:

  • Diagnosis and treatment.
  • Twice weekly Rheumatology clinics at Timaru Hospital.
  • Education classes for newly diagnosed rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis patients.
