South Canterbury DHB Prepares for Strike Action

Members of the midwives’ union MERAS – Midwifery Employee Representation and Advisory Service who fall under the District Health Board Multi Employee Collective Agreement (MECA) are on an 8-hour strike on Tuesday 10 August between 11am – 7pm.

Jason Power, Chief Executive South Canterbury DHB said patient safety is our number one consideration in planning for the upcoming industrial action.

During the strike period the DHB will have life preserving midwives available to respond to women and babies who require our assistance.

“Staff have volunteered from other areas of the DHB to support Jean Todd to function by undertaking basic cares for women and babies and other un-regulated duties.”

The South Canterbury DHB is confident that the safety of our women and babies will be maintained for the duration of industrial action.
