HOUSE OFFICER (RMO)
Timaru Hospital offers House Officer positions to medical graduates who have either general scope of practice or probationary class 2 registration (or who are eligible for temporary registration) with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Please note we follow the national recruitment timetable for offers and appointment of First Year RMOs as outlined on the Health Careers/ACE website.
As one of 19 house staff, you would expect to work an average 55-59 hours per week, being rostered:
• night duty (22:45 to 08:15 Friday to Thursday)
• weekend shifts (08:00 to 23:00 Saturday and Sunday and 08:00 to 16:00 Saturday & Sunday)
• generally one evening per week on call (16:00 to 23:00)

Our positions require individuals with sound, broad-based clinical ability, a highly cooperative team approach, enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal skills, plus the confidence to accept a substantial degree of clinical responsibility. The absence of registrars affords close contact between consultants and residents, increasing the potential for teaching as well as providing greater levels of responsibility and exposure to a broader range of clinical experiences, (e.g. you actually are expected to attend Theatre Sessions to assist your Consultant).
