SCDHB Committee Appointments
The new look South Canterbury District Health Board met for the first time on Friday and appointed members to its advisory committees.
Chairman Murray Cleverley welcomed new board members Paul Annear, Rene Crawford and Peter Lyman to the meeting. They joined re-elected members Peter Binns, Terry Kennedy, Ngaire Whytock and Ron Luxton, and re-appointed members Warwick Isaacs, Nicola Hornsey and Richie Smith.
The Board has six committees to advise it on issues in health and disability services. Membership and makeup of these committees was discussed and confirmed at the board meeting. Three committees meet in public. These are:
- The Hospital Advisory Committee (HAC) monitors the provision of hospital services to the community.
- The Community and Public Health Advisory Committee (CPHAC) advises the DHB on the health needs of the local population and funding priorities.
- The Disability Support Advisory Committee (DSAC) advises the DHB on the disability support needs of the local population and priorities for using disability-related funding.

Mr Cleverley says the district health board values input from the community and has made three positions available on each committee so community representatives will be able to contribute to the advice provided to the board. Maori representation will also be on each committee, and will be discussed with local Iwi shortly.
“Local people will soon be invited to put their names forward. We are looking for candidates who live in South Canterbury, have links with their community, and have health knowledge and expertise - either as a consumer or a provider of health services.
“Board and committee members need to consider complex issues including competing demands for health spending,” he says. “I’m confident that with community input at this level the Board will be well advised.”
