Green Prescriptions

A Green Prescription (GRx) is a health professional's written advice to a patient to be physically active, as part of the patient's health management.

The programme encourages GPs and the community to work together. Key players are: general practitioners, practice nurses, patients, physical activity providers, regional sports trusts, primary health organisations, district health boards, Maori health providers, community groups.

Green Prescription Wellness Programmes also are held regularly throughout South Canterbury. This is a 10-week course for people who wish to increase their physical activity.  There are opportunities to try different types of exercise.  Each week also includes a healthy lifestyle talk.  People may self-refer to this programme by calling Debbie on 0800ACTIVE (0800 22 84 83).
